Our Mission
Our Mission
At QSOA, our vision is to create an environment where seniors and university students can cooperatively engage in leisure activities such as group walks, bingo, one-on-one socialization, and guided arts and crafts. We believe these activities are mutually beneficial, providing seniors with more community-based activities and light physical exercise, while students gain the opportunity to appreciate and learn from the wisdom that comes only with years of experience. Loneliness is one of the greatest affliction impacting seniors, especially those in long-term residences. It is estimated that between 19-24% of Canadians aged 65+ feel socially isolated and wish they could participate in more social activities (Statistics Canada, 2023). Furthermore, they found that individuals left behind by young people migrating for work, or those without children or family contact, are at a higher risk of loneliness. QSOA is committed to making a meaningful impact on the mental health of seniors in long-term residences and alleviating symptoms of social isolation by enhancing existing programs with highly organized and well-planned gatherings.
