Our Story

Founded by students from Queen’s University, QSOA aims to bridge the generational gap between students and seniors. The idea for QSOA took root when our co-founder, Ivan Hodgson, started volunteering at SPRINT Senior Care. During his time there, Ivan discovered a unique and mutual enjoyment in conversations between divergent generations. These interactions, driven by nothing more than genuine human curiosity and emotion, proved to be deeply authentic. Such connections are not uncommon—many can attest to the profound relationships that form between grandchildren and grandparents, relationships unburdened by fleeting concerns like pop culture or viral trends. Moreover, scientific research continues to support the mutual benefits of connecting young people with seniors. In addition, Alina noticed that an unaddressed market at Queen's were clubs and organizations targeted to senior care. With this understanding, Alina and Ivan were inspired to establish QSOA to foster intergenerational learning and strengthen relationships within the Kingston community.
